We are a family-owned, mostly family operated, 501(c)(3) Tax Exempt, rescue dedicated to the forgotten pets - the exotics. We are based in the Tillman's Corner area of Greater Mobile, Alabama. We accept all forms of exotic pets except for the potentially dangerous venomous species. We are NOT animal hoarders! All surrendered animals are brought back to the best possible health before they are re-homed, but find homes they do.
To date we have re-homed many species of snakes, lizards, dragons, geckos, small mammals, various insects & arachnids, and a large number of different exotic bird species. Each has been a learning experience and each has been very rewarding to our souls. Since our opening over 300 critters have been placed in new & loving homes. The rate has increased greatly since we partnered with the web-based Petfinder organization.
We operate entirely from the miniscule adoption fees we collect and from the tax-exempt donations from the public. We receive NO funds from any Governmental branch or organization. Your tax dollars DO NOT support Chaos & Critters. If you wish to help support these deserving creatures you may either mail in your check directly or use the PayPal *Make a Donation* link found on our Donations page.
If you need to surrender your pet, please call or email us in advance! We will need time to set up an enclosure specific to your pet and its needs. We will also need o be aware of he animals history and any known health &/or attitude problems. You will also be required to sign a release form giving us full ownership & control of the animal. Occasionally we will need to use specialized foster families for our special-needs creatures or in the event of multiple large, (in excess of 10 foot), snakes. In such an event, be advised that only the most experienced handlers are used as foster parents.
Concerning large snakes: Each and every large snake, (expected adult length of nine (9) feet or more), that comes through our rescue has a microchip implanted before it goes to its new home. This is for the protection of all involved, including the snake. Should the specimen escape and later be found, then the registered owner can easily be located. Further, should the specimen be intentionally released into the wild then the offending owner can be located and prosecuted. Releases into the wild can cause extreme damage to the ecosystem as is occurring in the Florida Everglades now and such behavior can & will lead to the Government banning of ALL exotic species as pets - including birds, Guinea pigs, and other really harmless animals. All due to the unthinking actions of a few. Such legislation has already been introduced to the U.S. Senate this year(2009). Chaos & Critters does NOT condone either the release of exotics into the wild nor the intrusion of the Government into the right of Americans to own exotics. Do your part! Maintain strong and locked enclosures for your pets, and turn in offenders as soon as they become known to you.
